SFRP Vice Chair – Political Affairs Christopher L. (Chris) Bowman is a third generation San Franciscan. He grew up in Palo Alto, and in 1975, returned to the City which has been his home ever since.
He earned his B.A. in History from San Jose State (1968) and an M.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University (1973). Vice Chair Bowman served two years on Active Duty (one year In Vietnam) and twelve years in the active Reserves. He retired as a Major of the US Army Reserves in 1988. His specialty was Psychological Operations.
From 1983-1986, Vice Chair Bowman was a staff assistant to State Senator Milton Marks, and worked with the Senator on LGBT, AIDS, and Veterans issues.
For the past 19 years, he has been a political consultant, and worked for numerous Republican candidates at the State and local levels for partisan and non-partisan office and for the judiciary, and on various local ballot measures.
Vice Chair Bowman’s expertise is in the area of electoral analysis and demographics. In recognition of that fact, he was appointed and reappointed to the San Francisco Citizens Advisory Committee on Elections (1993-2001), and to the San Francisco Elections Task Force (1995).
From the time of his sophomore year in college, when he joined the San Jose State College Republicans, Vice Chair Bowman has been active in the Republican Party, at the local, state, and national levels. He was elected six times to the SFRCCC – serving as its 1st Vice Chair, Vice Chair for Political Action, twice as Secretary, and currently as its Vice Chair – Political Affairs, appointed six times to the California Republican Party, and served as a delegate to the Republican National Convention in New York City in 2004. He is currently a member or associate member of nearly a dozen local, statewide, and National Republican volunteer organizations.
It is Vice Chair Bowman’s fervent hope to recruit, nurture, mentor, and promote a new, diverse generation of San Francisco Republicans lead the local party in the 21st Century.
